Threads.
Instagram’s companion app.
Meta’s “version” of Twitter.
What an experience.
Why I Got Threads
Mostly because it’s an extension of Instagram, and I want my content to reach a broader audience.
I haven’t had it for a long time, so I don’t have a lot posted on my profile yet.
I was also curious, so I decided to give it a try.
What I Think of the App Itself
I don’t mind it, but you can definitely tell it is a companion app and doesn’t stand on its own like Twitter and Notes (Substack’s social app).
It is cool how you can import your bio and links from Instagram to Threads. Takes a tiny amount of work away from me.
What My Experience Has Been Like
While I haven’t been on Threads as much as I am on Instagram, when I do get on it, I receive a lot of comments in my feed about how pretty I am, or people wanting to be my friend, or date me.
Which is both flattering and annoying.
While my Instagram and Threads aren’t faceless (I sometimes share my life, which includes my face), the majority of my new content has nothing to do with my appearance.
I don’t want my face to be what draws people in. I am a writer, after all. I want my words to capture you, not my looks.
Don’t get me wrong. I’m always looking for writer and reader friends, so don’t be afraid to message me on Instagram or through Substack. I want to build that community.
But Threads is not a Goddamn dating app.
Will the Flirtations Stop Me
Hell no.
These people are allowed to think I’m pretty or have a crush on me. As long as it doesn’t morph into harassment. If so, I’m blocking their asses.
I’ll continue doing my own thing, sharing my writing and my life.
