Do you ever imagine how either a place, a person, or an event will be, only for reality to disappoint you?
Well, it happens to me. And more often than I like.
I’ve Always Had a Wild Imagination
Since childhood, I’ve been able to imagine the craziest stuff in my head.
Which hasn’t changed a lot as I moved into adulthood and is the reason I started writing fiction.
But Reality Gets in the Way
And it can be like a slap in the face, depending on the situation.
Usually, I can brush it off, but sometimes, it cuts a bit deeper. And it makes me wonder if my expectations are just too high.
Situations Where My Imagination Has Let Me Down
Here are a few examples:
Hotel Rooms
Other than my stays at the Venetian in Las Vegas a few years ago and Great Wolf Lodge when I was a kid, every hotel room I’ve stayed in has let me down in some way.
Dates
When I imagine a date with someone, the main point is that we connect and the conversation flows naturally.
But most of my dates haven’t been like that.
Events
I suppose this one is my fault for imagining these things would be nicer than they end up being, whether it was my Girl Scout troop creating an event or me simply being invited.
***
There are so many others, but not all of them come to mind right now.
It seems I have high expectations for things, which isn’t bad in on itself, but it has bitten me in the ass.
Has Your Imagination Let You Down?
If it has, I’d like to hear about it, so leave a comment or send me a message on Instagram.
