Identity.
What does that mean to you?
What does it mean to me?
What does it mean to the world?
Who I Am
I’ve been thinking about this. Who am I? It’s not easy to answer. But this is what I came up with:
An Online Writer
As you most likely know already, I write on Vocal, Medium, and Substack. And I write things from short stories, poetry, life posts, and writing/editing/beta reading posts.
And while I know I have readers and some subs, I’m not in the top 1% or anywhere close.
A Freelance Editor/Writer
But not as successful as I wish to be. I don’t get nearly as many editing clients as I’d like. And I have yet to land a writing client from my side hustle.
Someone Who Struggles with Emotions
Both in expressing my emotions constructively and handling others’ emotional outbursts without shutting down mentally.
Someone Who Struggles with Being Afraid
I’ve been a people pleaser for most of my life, and on occasion, a coward. And I hate it.
Who I Want to Be
I have a few things I want to be:
An Author
While I have self-published several books, I want to reboot my self-publishing author career.
A Semi-Famous Online Writer
I don’t need millions of followers, but I want to build a community with my readers and other writers. Because writing can be lonely when you’re doing it on your own
An Editor With a Thriving Business
I want Gem In The Rough Editing to be a consistent, reliable business and source of income.
A Successful Freelance Writer
I just started my new freelance writing side hustle, Ink and Impact, and want to make it a success.
A Soap/Shampoo Bar/Candle Maker
It’s something I’ve been thinking about doing for some time now. And as someone with fragrance sensitivities, I know how difficult it can be to find products that don’t give me a headache.
Which is why I want to create products for people like me.
Someone With an Open Heart and No Fear
This one feels the most daunting because of all the shit I’ve gone through. And it’s not that I don’t care for people. But I do have a hard time showing it and accepting it from others.
I also no longer want to fear confrontation and stand up for myself and those I care for.
Habits and Goals
Of course, you need habits and skills to help you accomplish your goals. So here are mine:
Learning Marketing
This applies to several aspects of my online life, especially the professional ones.
Learning Professional Social Media
While I have learned a bit through promoting my business and my personal Instagram, side hustle, and writing, I want to take my skills to the next level.
Daily Deep Writing Sessions
For both my online writing and my new fiction draft. I’m hoping it will reignite that passion for my craft.
Taking Writing/Editing Courses
While I’m good at both, you should always want to learn more, so that’s what I’m going to do.
Learn Soap/Candle Making
I already use bar soap and shampoo/conditioner bars, so I want to learn to make my own for myself and others. And I want to create some cool unscented candles for my desk, then for others.
Therapy
I know this will help so many areas of my life—even ones I didn’t list here because I didn’t think of them.
