Yes, after years of resisting, I finally gave in and got Snapchat.
And it’s interesting.
Why So Long?
As a social app, I never found a reason to have it. I already had Facebook and Instagram (which I barely used until I tied it to my writing), and those were enough for me.
Why I Got It
Many people I’ve been talking to on dating apps have Snapchat but not Instagram, which is my preferred messaging platform for those I don’t have on Facebook.
But, about a week ago, I was like, Screw it. Let’s get it.
So, I got it.
What I Think of It
I’ve been using Snapchat for a week, and here are my thoughts on it:
My Avatar
It looks nothing like me, even with the manual tweaks I made. And the app scans your face to create the avatar when you first sign up.
I must have a unique face.
The Layout of the App
How Snapchat is formatted — it’s a bit overwhelming. Starting with the camera and then the two snapshots of reels I’ve seen when opening it. So much is going on, and it makes my brain hurt.
The Messaging
Not my favorite as it likes to hide previous messages from me, but I do like the stickers and reactions. They’re fun and playful.
The Social Aspect
I haven’t really bothered checking social feeds or anything like that. I’m only using it to talk to people.
Will I Grow to Like It?
I’m not sure, but I used to dislike messaging on Instagram, and now it’s my second favorite app for that.
So I guess we’ll have to see.
